LAST CUP:
Road to the World Series of Beer Pong. It's a documentary that follows four teams on their way to Nevada for the second annual World Series of Beer Pong where the team with the sharpest accuracy (and highest tolerance) stands to walk away with $20,000. LAST CUP cuts through the drunken revelry and sets its cameras on four very different teams, culminating in a sobering, nail-biter of a conclusion. LAST CUP is beginning to make its way around the country at festivals and college campuses.
New York, NY (SEPT 2009) – Today, Virgil Films & Entertainment announced that it has co-acquired Dan Lindsay’s “Last Cup: Road to the World Series of Beer Pong” with B-Side Entertainment. The two will launch an innovative release of the CineVegas hit on Sept. 26 to college campuses and university towns, organized by Range Life Entertainment. Virgil will release the film on DVD on Dec. 29, as part of its ongoing series entitled “Morgan Spurlock Presents.”
In addition to the series of screening events and parties on the tour, the film will also play nationwide through B-Side’s signature “Theatrical On Demand” program where individuals, bars, restaurants, clubs and other organizations can host a screening of any size, in any location, at any time. Accompanying the screening program is a special competition sponsored by BPONG.COM for the event that generates the most “buzz” as measured by online voting on the official “Last Cup” website ( HYPERLINK "http://www.lastcupmovie.com" www.lastcupmovie.com). The host of the event with the most “buzz” will win a pre-paid entry into BPONG.COM’s World Series of Beer Pong V held annually in Las Vegas, Nev., with round-trip airline tickets for a two-person team and accommodations for four nights at The Flamingo Hotel and Casino.
The World Series of Beer Pong (The WSOBP) is the largest, longest-running organized beer pong tournament in the world, created by beer pong players for beer pong players. The fifth annual event will be held in Las Vegas from Jan. 1-5, 2010. More than 1,000 participants will gather to compete in multiple rounds of beer pong matches for a $50,000 grand prize.
Timed to the launch of The WSOBP V, Virgil will release “Last Cup” on DVD and digitally on Dec. 29, under the banner of “Morgan Spurlock Presents.” Morgan Spurlock, the well-known director of “Super Size Me,” and the creator of FX’s “Thirty Days,” has been presenting noteworthy documentaries on DVD since 2004. Spurlock remarked, “As someone who played an excessive amount of beer pong in college, I was immediately hooked on this movie! The movie is great and the world of beer pong is so rich that any sports fan will love it."
"We have been waiting patiently to unleash this film on audiences and we couldn't be more excited about doing that with Morgan, Virgil and B-Side,” said Director Dan Lindsay. “We are humbled to be working with such professionals, and Morgan's not half bad either. We look forward to a fun and successful tour with the help of everyone at Range Life, as well as the crew at BPONG.com.”
"Beer pong is a sport, and Dan Lindsay's film shows the world what the often-misunderstood game of beer pong is really about: the competition, the camaraderie, and the fun. We are excited to see the release of ‘Last Cup’ this fall, and we look forward to the eye-opening experience upon us,” commented entrepreneur Billy Gaines, Co-Founder of BPONG.COM, host of The WSOBP.
“‘Last Cup’ shows that beer pong has moved beyond just a rowdy college pastime to become a real sport with a competitive following. B-Side is excited to help introduce this hilarious film to a wide audience of beer enthusiasts, beer pong players, and sports fans,” said Chris Hyams, Founder and CEO of B-Side.
“Last Cup: Road to the World Series of Beer Pong” made its world premiere at The CineVegas Film Festival in 2008 and went on to play at other festivals in San Francisco, San Diego, Tulsa, Atlanta, Chicago and London. The film chronicles America’s wooziest subculture and the quest to conquer the fun and frothy sport of competitive beer pong. It was executive produced by Nicholas Kalikow, J. Andrew Greenblatt and Morgan Spurlock. The film’s producer is Josh Otten and it was co-produced by Dan and Dave Tischler. In addition to directing, Lindsay co-wrote the film with TJ Martin.
